ADHD is a long-term affliction that can continue long into your adulthood. However, according to Dr. VA Harpin, being diagnosed with ADHD “…does not preclude high educational and vocational achievements.” That means that if you, or someone you know, is showing symptoms of ADHD, then it’s unlikely to keep them from achieving a secondary education.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that it won’t affect everything else. If left untreated, ADHD might affect many (if not all) areas of a child’s life. This could include their ability to stay focused in school, or even their ability to make long-lasting relationships with other people.

According to Kids Health, extreme forms of ADHD might also result in “…low self-esteem, depression, oppositional behavior, risk-taking behavior, or family conflict.”

What Causes ADHD in Adults

Statistics from Healthline confirm that ADHD is a prevalent mental disorder that “…5-10 percent of American children might suffer from.” There has been evidence to suggest that ADHD might be a result of genetics. In fact, it has been said that a child with a relative with ADHD, might have a 75% of growing up with the disorder.

It has also been suggested to be caused by premature birth, injuries to the brain, and a mother that abused substances like alcohol or cigarettes whilst pregnant.

Treatments for ADHD

ADHD can be treated in a variety of ways. With the proper treatment, a young child can learn to grow out of behaviors that are diagnosed with this mental disorder. Here are just a couple of treatments that might be used or done, to treat a child suffering from ADHD.

Medication that controls the hormones inside of the brain can be taken to help urge the child to exercise more focus and control.

Steady therapy sessions to coach behavior are the best way to help children develop the social, emotional, and organizational skills that they might lack because of ADHD.

Attention from parents and teachers should help children manage the symptoms in a healthy way.
